What does resilient even mean?

The Cambridge Dictionary defines resilient as:
– Resilient, adjective
– able to be happy, successful, etc. again after something difficult or bad has happened.
– able to quickly return to its usual shape after being bent, stretched, or pressed.
– able to return quickly to a previous good condition after problems.

It is not surprising that the use of the word has peaked over the past two years. Bushfires, floods, storms and of course, COVID-19 has meant businesses have had to stop, start, pivot, re-build, re-design, change the way they deliver services and some have come out with a totally new business.

With disasters, like fires, floods and storms generally, the damage can be re-built and it is more about the business owners and staff needing to be resilient and being able to ‘return quickly to the previous good condition after said problem’. However, the pandemic has meant that the actual business and the business owner/s and staff must keep moving, constantly evolve and above all ensure they are resilient.

Building resilience into your business is now not just a good idea, it is a must!
